Mr. Andrew D. DeCecio, age 91, of 1121 Rosannah st., Ellwood City passed away on Thursday evening at the Ellwood City Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit at 7:11 pm.
Mr. DeCecio was born on October 18, 1916 in Ellwood City to the late Frank & Elizabeth Colao DeCecio. Andy attended Lincoln High School, and enlisted in the Unites States Army during World War II serving from January 27, 1944 until February 16, 1946 with the 754th Field Artillary Battalion with the rank of Private First Class as a truck driver. He was in the Battle of Central Europe and received one bronze star. Andy worked for the U.S. Steel Co. in Ellwood City from 1938 to 1944 and again from 1946 until he retired in 1974 as a power saw operator. Mr. DeCecio was a member of the Holy Redeemer Church, The Veterans Honor Guard, American Legion post 157, V.F.W. post 252, MOOSE #93, S.O.I. #608, Holy Redeemer Church Holy Name Society, and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed gardening and loved music.
Andy is survived by two daughters and one son in law ; Joyce, & Sam Fotia of Ellwood City, and Loretta Warren of Sweet Home ,Oregon, two sons and one daughter in law ; Andrew DeCecio of Ellwood City, and Frank & Kathy DeCecio of Marietta, California, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Barry DeCecio, whom he married on June 10, 1940 and passed away in 2005, a grandson Vincent Warren , 2 sisters; Dolly Christley, and Clara Trento, 4 brothers ; Victor, Nick,, James ,and Anthony DeCecio.
Visitation will be held on Monady from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc..
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at the Holy Redeemer Church at 10:00 am. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 9:20 am as the procession to church will begin to leave at 9:30 am. Internment will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet on Monday by 7:50pm at the funeral home for a service, and again on Tuesday by 10:45 am at the cemetery to conduct full military rites.
