Mr. Carmen Prestopine, age 86, of 135 Orchard Ave., Ellwood City, passed away on Wednesday at 1:49 pm at the Ellwood City Hospital.
Carmen was born on September 13, 1922 in Masontown, Pa to the late Natale, & Philomena Scillia Prestopine. Mr. Prestopine had attended Lincoln High School, after which he enlisted into the U.S. Army on December 5, 1942 and served until January 11, 1946, holding the rank of PFC he served with the 979th signal motor messenger co. as a messenger. Carmen was in the battle of Rhineland and received 1 Bronze Battle Star. He then was employed at the Baobcok & Wilcox Koppel plant for 36 years. Amember of the Holy Redeemer Church, the Sons of Italy #608, the MOOSE #93, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Penguins , and Pitt Panthers fan.
Mr. Prestopine is survived by his wife Mary Pietrcollo Prestopine whom he married on May 22, 1947. One daughter ; Lee McConnell of New Castle, one son and his wife ; Jerry, JoAnn Prestopine of New Castle, 4 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren 5 step great grandchildren, one brother Natale Prestopine of Ellwood City, and a sister in law Gilda Prestopine of Ellwood City.;
Carmen was preceded in death by two brothers Michael , and Joseph Prestopine, and 4 sisters; Angeline Izzo, Rita Santillo, Pauline Prestopine, & Stella E. Tomei.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc.
A mass of christian burial will be held on Saturday at the Holy Redeemer Church at Noon with Father Lou Pascazi officiating. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet athe Funeral Home on Saturday by 11:20 ama as the procession to church will begin to leave at 11:30 am. Internement will follow at the Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked at the cemetery on Saturday by 12:50 pm to conduct full military rites.
Contributions may be made in Mr Prestopine's name to the Odyssey Hospice or to the charity of the donors choice.
