Mr. John A. Mikosz, 85, of 836 Western Ave., Ellwood City passed away at the Ellwood City Hospital on Thursday January 28, 2010 at 10:30 pm.
Mr. Mikosz was born on January 13, 1925 in Ellwood City to the late Anthony Mikosz and Bernice Lawrence Mikosz. He was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1943 and the Holy Redeemer Church. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on May 29, 1943 and served with the 799 anti-aircraft battery as a sgt. until May of 1946. He was awarded the bronze star for the Battle of Central Europe in Germany. John was then employed by the U.S. Steel Ellwood City Plant in the bar mill department having retired in 1974 with 32 years of service.
John was a life member of the Moose Lodge #93, the Polish National Alliance Lodge # 1212, and the V.F.W. Post 252 for 64 years. Also, John had enjoyed golfing and bowling over the years..
John is survived by one daughter Michelle Mikosz of Ellwood City, a step daughter; Shirley Hill of Shenango Twp., a step son Samuel Norge Sr. of Mt. Jackson, one sister; Dorothy Powell of Ellwood City, and one brother; Joseph Mikosz of Ellwood City, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mikosz was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law Joseph Powell.
Visitation will be held on Sunday January 31, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Monday from 10-11 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc..
A Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home with Father Mark Thomas officiating. Internment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday by 10:50 am to conduct full military rites.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Holy Redeemer Angel Fund.
