Mr. Joseph L. Conti, age 85, of Upland, CA passed away on Wednesday January 14, 2009 at 2:30 pm in The Kindred Hospital.
Mr. Conti was born on April 27, 1923 in Ellwood City to the late Anthony Conti & Mary Carofino Conti. Joe was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1941 and the Holy Redeemer Church while living in Ellwood City. He enlisted into the U.S. Army on January 26, 1943 and served until December 19, 1945 with the 997 Field Artillary Battalion in the 1st and 3rd armies. He was awarded 5 battles stars for his involvement with the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, & Central Europe.
After which Joe was the owner and operator of a grocery store on 5th St before moving to California in 1954, In California he worked for the Kaiser Steel Co. in Upland , CA.
Survivors include three sisters and one brother in law ; Carmel Rocco of Ellwood City, Margaret Benegasi of St. Petersburg, FLA, Yolanda & John Puz of Palm Beach , Ca, and two sister in laws ; Ann Conti, & Mary Conti both of Ellwood City.
Mr. Conti was preceded in death by his wife Adele Slovak Conti whom he married on July 3, 1948 and passed away on January 20, 1991. Also, three brothers; Andrew, James, Albert Conti, and one sister; Concetta Mae Catarcio.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home. Inc..
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at the Holy Redeemer Church at 10:00 am. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday by 9:20 am as the procession to church will begin to leave at 9:30am . Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the church on Tuesday by 10:40 am to conduct full military rites. Internment will follow at the Slippery Rock Church Cemetery.
