I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud;
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, Freedom is Not Free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.

I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend;

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard,
At the bottom of the sea.
Of all the unmarked graves
No, Freedom is Not Free.
~Apoem that moved my heart
I am still so proud of you Daniel for joining the Army and I always will remember how much joy you brought to my life over the years and i will think about you every day and miss and love you.

My dear Daniel,

I never knew you and wouldnâtâve known of you if it werenât for my bro, your battle buddy Spc. Motamedi in basic training. My sonâs your name sake, heâs 13. I as a mother truly believe anyone with the name Daniel is empowered by the Almighty.

We were all truly saddened of the news of your departure. I canât fathom and my heart goes out to your sister, brother, mother, father, grandparents, uncle and cousin of your lose. I truly believe itâs harder on the loved ones.

Your heroism is unquestionable Daniel, you left a deep impression on all your battle buddies.

âBlessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.â Mt. 5:8
