Edward R. Swaney , 77

Edward R. Swaney Mr. Edward R. "Dick" Swaney, age 77, of 107 Lakewood Dr., North Sewickley Twp. passed away at the Ellwood City Hospital on Wednesday at 9:11 pm.

Mr.Swaney was born on August 12, 1931 in New Brighton to the late Edward J. Swaney and Eleanor M. Harris Swaney. Dick had attended New Brighton High School and then enlisted into the U. S. Navy during the Korean War serving on the USS Arcadia as a radioman with the rank of Seaman from June 29, 1948 to June 16, 1952. Methodist by faith, Mr. Swaney worked for the Bell Telephone Co. out of New Brighton & Rochester as a lineman and facility assigner for 30 years. Dick was a member of the American Legion Post 19 in New Brighton, the New Brighton Eagle Club, Ellwood City Saxons Club, Beaver Falls Owls Club, Beaver Falls Elks Club, the Oak Hill Vets Club, Sons of Italy #608, V.F.W. post 14000, Kelletville Sportmans Club, and the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Kelletville.

Survivors include one son, Edward Swaney of North Sewickley Twp., one sister and her husband, Patty & Ron Winters of Chippewa Twp., and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Thalmann Swaney whom he married on June 16, 1962 and passed away on April 20, 1995, and one sister, Frances Romesburg.

Visitation will be held on Friday Decemeber 12, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Saturday from 10 to 11 am at the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc..

A service will be held on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 11:00 am with Pastor Peggy Suhr-Barkley officiating. Internment will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery. Members of the Veterans Honor Guard are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 10:45 am to conduct full military rites.

Dick was a dear friend from grade school on Oak Hill, N.B. to present. He will be deeply missed.
